I wouldn’t read too much in to the tattoos a far as symbolism, from what people have told me and what I’ve read it’s not uncommon to pick a design that reflects something about their personality or taste rather then any symbolism; which could include ancient, religious, literary, or tribal symbolism. ( For example many ancient cultures, pre-chistianity used cross-like symblols.)
